The prospects for job opportunities in Myanmar looks promising with the signing of an MoU between Thai based Emerald Grand Hotel Company Limited and the Myanmar Port Authority, to launch the Kalar Gote Deep Sea port project in Mon State.
According to the MoU, the 10 billion USD Aero-power Project will be operational within a year.
“We have to finish this project within a year to generate sufficient electricity. If the first step is successful, we will continue signing other MoUs”, said U Thein Aung, member of the Transportation, Telecommunication and Construction Committee.
Dr. Toe Toe Aung, the City Development Minister from Mon State said that they expect to create approximately 12000 jobs when the Deep Sea Port project is complete.
“Around 60 percent of the youths from this region go to foreign countries in search of job opportunities. So, when the Deep Sea Port Project is completed, they would not have to go other countries for work anymore. The job opportunities created from the project will automatically protect girls and women”, said Ko Aung Htoo from Thanbyuzayat Watch.
The Kalar Gote Deep Sea Port is located 15 miles south-west of the Airport Village in Htinn Shuu Village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State. The port will link Myanmar to Thailand, China, Cambodia and Vietnam through the Thanbyuzayat-Phayar Thone Su (3 Pagodas) highway.
U Thein Aung said that the Deep Sea Port is at a distance of 40 miles from the Global Sea-Route and water-crafts such as bulk-carriers with DWT 50000 will be able to dock here after the port is built.
U Thein Aung said that the construction of the Kalar Gote Deep Sea Port was initially planned near Thabyaechoung Village Beach in La Mine sub-Township, Yayy Township, Mon State. But the location was shifted to the present location due to the strategic location of the Kalar Gote Island.
Naing Lawii Aung, the Electricity Minister from Mon State said that Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited and a Chinese Company are inspecting the area to develop a petroleum production factory with a production capacity of 5 Million tons of petroleum per year inside the Deep Sea Port. He continued that the crude oil needed for the factory will be bought from the Middle East.
Currently, the Thanbyuzayet-Phayar Thone Su highway that will link Kalar Gote Deep Sea Port and Thailand is being constructed. There is also a possibility of rail road which is at the Feasibility Survey stage.
The Kyauk Phyu Deep Sea Port and Dawei Deep Sea Port along the Myanmar coastline are under construction. Apart from the Kalar Gote Deep Sea Port, the government has scheduled the construction of the Bote Pyinn Deep Sea Port.
